393 Camberwell R, Camberwell

This place is fab!

Allergy friendly for everyone – from the gluten to the fructose intolerant.  Most importantly – the food is delicious!

Sweet Potato Rosti
With  Bacon, spinach (sans) hollandaise, a poached egg, and cherry tomatoes $21

It was delicious.  A sweet potato rosti with a salty crunchy exterior. And delicious toppings.  Shame the egg was super vinegar-y.

The best thing about this place – if it doesn’t taste good, it doesn’t go on the menu.  That’s why there’s no burger – yet.  They’re road testing gluten free buns — so lovers of my other blog emsburgerquest – stay tunes!

Jess enjoyed her chicken and cider pot pie with chick pea chips and said it was deceptively filling and very tasty.

Our brunch outings have been fantastic.  For those who need gluten free, fructose free, nut free, dairy free, or vegan – and the menu is colourful and full of flavour.  The staff are friendly and know the menu inside and out.  A great little place.

With so many friends with intolerances *including myself – it’s great that there’s a place that has embraced the challenge and created a menu that literally has something for everybody

21 Daly St, South Yarra VIC 3141

Expectations were high, after all our other wonderful experiences at George’s restaurants.

The concept was great – Sunday lunch Special

Greco Roman Yum Cha $40 per person (4 courses)

We were the first customers to arrive for the 12noon lunch sitting.

We were put in a weird little corner even though we’d booked in advance.

First course was quite pleasant –

Thin strips of prosciutto with fennel seed infused grissini

Smoked salmon with fresh warm bread

Warm breaded olives with harissa

Second course was a bland cauliflower soup that didn’t move me

Penne matriciana – Undercooked pasta, served room temperature, unseasoned

Macaroni cheese – bland, cold, undercooked, unseasoned,  – I did like the super crunchy breadcrumbs with not nearly enough panchetta on top

Spaghetti puttanesca – undercooked, under seasoned, pretty bland

Orichette – with asparagus – probably my favourite dish of the day but needed something acid like lemon juice to balance the flavours

And the salad – how can you ruin salad? They did

The cos lettuce still had sand/dirt grains, and was served – 5 leaves with a few curls of reggiano – no dressing – it was like they forgot to finish making it

Dessert – The expected Columbaris donuts with honey and candied pecans – raw, like the pasta, they were uncooked in the middle

Creme fresh semi freddo with rose and candied pistacios – weird flavours, tasted like creamy soap

Well, we’ve had amazing meals at Maha, Hellenic Republic, and St Katherines. But I’ won’t be going back to Mamababa any time soon – leave it long enough for them to cook the pasta all the way through!

Big Boy BBQ

  • 764 Glenhuntly Road, Caulfield South

$99 feeds 4 people generously – $25 each

Saucy beef brisket, pulled pork scotch fillet, pulled lamb shoulder, pastrami, ½ rack of pork ribs, ½ rack of lamb ribs, regular wings and 3 jumbo sides

Well… It looks generous…. It tasted bland…. Everything pretty much tasted the same.  It was fatty and oily and didn’t really move my furniture.

I have to say, I was disappointed.
